XP Home SP3.

Depends on what you mean, I guess. Functionally it's fine, and really
always has been. W/r to being spyware/calling home, etc. etc., it does
even more than it used to these days. Personall I won't use it, but
that's a personal preference, so ... .

I've now tried following the instructions but fail at the first hurdle as,
when I try to delete the Cmdcons folder, it is "in use" and won't delete -
any suggestions would be welcome.

Try 'Safe Mode' to see if the folder
can be deleted.
