Install Microsoft XP Service Pack 2... able to log in, but no icon

Recently brought up my company computer to SP2 level. Install is successful
(or so it appears!), and I happily reboot. Upon first and subsequent logons,
everything appears fine... until it's time for the icons to appear on the
desktop. Nothing ever comes up. I can "Ctrl" "Alt" "Del" and get the popup,
however "Shut Down" is the only working selection.

Any ideas on the cause? BTW - I am not an Administrator of the box... and
the OS is XP Pro.

Jethro, SP2 is a major addition to XP. If you had any spyware or
malware on your system it's probably borked.
You can try a Repair Install. Check here at Michaels site for more
info.
