Problem Logging in to XP

S

smittysc

I am running XP SP2. I am no longer able to log into Windows. Both my
Administrator account and single user account are not password protected so I
have never needed to enter them nor have I ever been promted.

As I boot up I now get the blue welcome screen and see the icon for my
account "Steve". I click on the user and I get the message "Loading
personal settings" then "Saving personal settings" then "logging off" thus
not allowing me to get in. I have tried to do a CNTL ALT +DEL and go in as
Administrator (without password) and that also does not work.

Finally I have tried to start XP in Safe Mode. THis time I get the blue
welcome screen and the icons for Administrator and my account "steve". Again
clicking on the icons I get the message "Loading personal settings" then
"Saving personal settings". The only option left is to click "Turn off
computer"

Please help.

You have several options. It depends on what is doing that.
Booting to "Safe Mode With Command Prompt" will avoid any problems with a
corrupt user profile. From there, System Restore may fix it.

If no help, you may need to reset your registry to the original setup.
