Inkjet for 2-sided printing?

Sorry this is probably the most commonly asked questions here. I searched
Google and didn't find the answer.

I have a laser which I love for B&W print but we need a color printer for my
wife's business. She needs to print color fliers and handouts, probabaly
500 pages per month. Here's the catch, many are double-sided. We want to
use it occasionally for printing photos as well.

For speed, versatility and quality the Canon i850 seems to be the one, but
it doesn't do double-sided printing. There isn't a lot of info on this
feature.

So questions are:

1. I've read the HP's have an adapter for 2-sided printing. Is it worth it,
how does it work?

2. Is it better to just get the i850 and feed the papers through twice.

3. If not the Canon, which printer?

I have done double sided printing on my i850 on a small scale (e.g.,
printing 50 pages from a software manual double-sided). The Canon driver
makes it relatively painless. You just click the double-sided checkbox in
the driver and tell it to print. It prints all the odds, and prompts you
to flip the pages and put them back in the input hopper, then it prints all
the evens.

On the other hand, I have no idea how annoying this could get if you have
to repeat it 10 to 20 times a day or more.

I use an HP-990cse, it came with the duplexing attachment. Works great for
2-sided business flyers, and is an outstanding photo printer. There's no
substitute for duplexing when you're printing large numbers of 2-sided
pages. I use Adobe Acrobat for creating 2-sided documents from different
sources, it works quite well with the duplexing driver.

As I know only hp produces duplexing units. Choose a printer to have it as
is, not as an option. There are such hp printers (990 is not in market now).
I think one choice is the hp 6120.

You should look at the New HP 6122 it has the duplex unit and is Hi page per
month and great Photo output

Most printer drivers have manual dual-sided printing. The driver spools
the ENTIRE print job to disk, then prints every other page, makes you put
the paper back in the in tray, then prints the other side. OK for short
documents, but could be a major problem on a large document. If you screw
up one page, the whole thing is lost.

Many of the newer HP printers can use a duplexer. All of the 9xx's (the
970 and 990 came with it), and the newer ones that use the #56/57/58
cartridges. You can buy it separately for the models that don't come with
it. It's around US$50-75. The duplexer for the 9xx's will work on the
newer printers.

HP is the only InkJet company I know of that supports automatic duplex
printing on some models.

However, I feel Canon is a far better printer overall.
