IMPROVE SYSTEM PERFORMANCE

HELP! I have followed Microsoft instruction to overcome sluggishness on Windows XP. ie Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE
I should then click Task Manager
But only get the Task Bar Box, do not know how to go on from there. it does not seem to have anywhere to click
