How can I get my Task Manager back ???

I

Isaac Gutman, M.D

Hi all,
When I Rt click on the task bar and click on the 'Task Manager', or press
'ctrl-alt -delete' - nothing happened !!!
Using the links found here (by many good people) did not help!
I definitely do not have a virus or a malware in my system and 'msconfig'
works fine.
Only did EmergencyUtils (by Doug Knox ) works.
So again, how can I get my original Task Manager back ???
TIA,
Isaac

have you checked your C:\windows\system32 folder to see if it contains the
taskmgr.exe?

Enter the registry and follow the path
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects.
Once you are here, delete all contents of StuckRects and restart your
computer. Once you have restarted your computer, you should be able to access
Task Manager again.

***To be on the safe side I would export and save the key first before
deleting though. Just in case...***

Here is something else you can check....

[Start] [Run] [Regedit]
Registry Key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
Modify/Create the Value Data Type(s) and Value Name(s) as detailed below.
Data Type: DWORD Value // Value Name: DisableTaskMgr
Setting for Value Data: [0 = Enabled (Default) / 1 = Disabled]
Exit Registry and Reboot

Try using Start - Run - TASKMGR.EXE and report back what happens.

If it won't load then try navigating to the TASKMGR.EXE in Windows
Explorer and double-clicking on it.

If neither of these works, or if it starts and then immediately closes
again try using Start - Run - REGEDIT and see what happens with that.

If that behaves in the same manner as Task Manager (won't run or
starts and then closes immediately) then there is a very high
probability that your computer is infested with a virus/trojan/spyware
of some kind and you need to try some additional detection & removal
tools.

Good luck

First of all - I would like to thank all you good people that are trying to
help !
1. My XP2 has the C:\windows\system32 folder.
2. I have 'StuckRects2' in the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Explorer\StuckRects, deleted the content, rebooted and NO GOOD.
3. DWORD Value // Value Name: DisableTaskMgr in the regedit is set to 0.
4. "Try using Start - Run - TASKMGR.EXE and report back what happens" -
it says - Windows cannot find 'TASKMGR.EXE', although it is there (in
System32) and also
taskmgr which cannot be deleted. Double click on these 2 and the Task
Manager shows up !
And again - there is NO virus in the system.
So-I ask the knowledgeable people again, now what ?
Thanks again,
Isaac

Is the System32 folder in your PATH environment variable?

Open Control Panel System -System and go to the Advanced tab. Click
on the Environment Variables button at the bottom of the window.

In the Environment Variables window locate the PATH item in the System
variables section and may sure that it contains the value
C:\Windows\System32; as part of the entry.

Good luck

does the task manager come up if you press CTRL-Shift-ESC....
Do you have a folder in C:\Program Files called 'winupdates'? This folder
might be hidden, so make sure you have show hidden files and folders on...
