Importing files from my JVC minDV to my PC

I am trying to import a video from my JVC minDV to my PC. I am using the USB
cable provided by JVC and I have everything connected, but I get the
following error message every time I try to do this:

A video capture device was not detected. Verify that a device is turned on
and connected properly, and them try again.

I have restarted my computer, disconnected and reconnected the miniDV to my
PC and the same thing happens.

I am pretty frustrated by now, and would love any help/advice you can give.

Thanks!

Read the JVC instruction manual.
USB is for transferring still images from the installed
memory card, and JVC will have supplied software
for that task.
This is XP movie maker forum.
Windows Movie Maker will not recognise your JVC
if connected via USB.
Connect via firewire and *ALL* capture software
including WMM, will recognise your JVC and capture
DV footage.
