IIS troubles

I set up IIS on my WinXP Pro machine but I cannot access
any pages. If I enable directory listing, I can see the
folder's contents (as long as I remove/rename default.htm).
Otherwise if default.htm exists, the browser sits forever
and finally gives a message the "document contains no data"
This same message is received when you attempt to download
a document simply by clicking on it's link once you have
the listing on screen.

My IP is 216.231.54.181, please help!
