Was force into installing it on windows update.

IE7 isn't needed, Windows Update will probably download it then give you an option to install it now, later or not at all. It really depends on if you want it or not.

I quite like it now, it's certainly grown on me - I wasn't so keen at first.

Oh sorry, I misunderstood your question. I thought it brought up the box that asks you that question.

From what I understand you can download IE6 Standalone from here and use it alongside IE7:
