IE6 SP2 popup blocker misconception

V

Vince C.

Hi,

It is a misconception to call IE6 SP2 new feature "Popup blocker" an
"Inopportune Ad blocker". When I browse legitimate web sites that need popups
(when I click some links or buttons), like Hotmail for instance, I don't
recognize an "Inopportune ad" in a simple dialog like "Do you want to empty this
folder"... IE popup blocker is a popup blocker, full stop. And seeing a message
on top of the browsing area like "Inopportune ads were blocked" when these are
*not* ads is like considering popups are only ads.

XP SP2 does not use the words "Inopportune ads were blocked" which makes me
wonder if something else is causing your problem. Please advise.

I have a French version of Windows so I'm translating basically. I don't know
how MS calls it in English but in French it's called "Bannières publicitaires
intempestives". The latter equals considering all popups on the web are
"unwanted popup ads" or whatever you call it. I have no problem about MSIE -
first I don't use it anymore - but only an opinion as to how Microsoft considers
popup windows on the Web...

It's all about calling a cat a cat: Firefox, for instance, talks about "Popup
windows". Simply. Because all popups are not necessarilly ads. There are
legitimate sites which use popups that are not ads. So please, update MSIE and
have it display the right term instead of a misleading one.

Thanks.

Thanks, Jan. However I don't need any tip or trick. Just a matter of vocabulary.

Ok. This is only in the French version of IE. Let's say MS France mainly
considers popup ads and forgets about legitimate popups.
