Hi again, all. First let me say that I really have no idea why I upgraded to
IE6 in the 1st place. I just like to keep as much of my software updated to
the latest version as possible. When I read about all of the new
enhancements with IE6, quite honestly I didn't see anything there which I
felt would really benefit me, as merely a home PC user. But it was new, has
been around for the kinks to be worked out, so I figured why not get it.
So I got it, and had literally nothing but stalling, freezing, and hanging
connections continuously and wasn't very happy about it. But I found this
group and saw that many encountered the same problems. So I tried every fix
and tweak I found in here, in an effort to make my shiny, new IE6 work as
well as my IE5.5 had worked. Well after 2 weeks of downloading this, and
running that, checking this box, and unchecking that box, and on and on, I
finally became quite discouraged.
I thank in every way possible, ALL of the people who have worked so hard and
given so much time to resolving the issues listed here, and commend them on
all of their efforts. And I'm quite happy for those who have found
resolution from many of the "fixes" listed here.
However, for those such as myself, who have tried everything and continue to
have stalls and hangs with IE6, I would like to suggest one additional fix.
Go back to IE5.5. I can not tell you how nice it is to once again have a
smooth, continual connection with no stalls, no hangs, no freezes and simply
return to surfing the web without all of the frustration. I sincerely
believe that for some of us, that is the answer. Personally, I will continue
to monitor this group, with the great people here to see if some common
issue is found that appears to resolve the stalling problems universally for
all, and then may try IE6 again. But for now, it's back to IE5.5 for me.
Trouble free, and issue free, just as things were prior to my upgrading to
IE6.
Again, thanks to those working so hard to find fixes which seem to be
working for several. Your efforts are invaluable.
Once again,
Bob
