IE6+ embedded media player problems (wininet.dll error)

I have sent countless error reports on this topic but still do not see any
resolutions.

The PROBLEM:
I play a streaming video (ex. sports highlight) in IE6 that uses the
embedded windows media player. The file starts but then partially through
the segment crashes and I get an error report, which I send and then IE6+
shuts down. I ave been having this problem for a while an can't seem to
figure out how to fix it.

Any suggestions? -Thank you

A lot of errors in wininet.dll are caused by corrupted or too-large
TIF/cache folders. Delete them:

If no joy, more troubleshooting here:
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/archive/answers_5.htm#wininet

If no joy, repost with the exact error message

And since this error involves WMP these newsgroups could also be helpful:

I have tried the first option, to no avail (i.e. the problem still exists).
I am going to try the others that include deleting the said folders and will
repost with the exact error message. I just wanted to let you know that I
was acting on your suggestions, since this is as close to a possible
resolution as I have received here - THANKS! Hopefully this will work out.

I have tried all solutions, nothing so far. I am running Windows Xp sp2, IE
6.0 with latest updates. The exact error message is below:

AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: wininet.dll
ModVer: 6.0.2900.2781 Offset: 00078bac

Would a new or a working wininet.dll file help? I have several on my
hardrive (after doing a search) and I could go through each and perhaps find
the a corrupted one.
