IE6 wininet.dll error

When I try to open an internet radio player from any
host web site, the player window opens up for an instant
then it and the original web site window close. The same
thing happens when I try to play movie trailers from any
web sites. I can, however, play music or video that is on
my pc.
My OS is WindowsXP Professional and all critical
updates have been installed. When this first started
occurring on Friday 28 May 2004, an error notification
window would open and allow me to send the error
information to MS. It indicated an error with Module
wininet.dll. As of 5 June 2004, I am no longer getting the
window to send MS an error message.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling IE6 and
associated updates (editing the register). I have tried
the same with Media Player. The error occurs regardless of
which player I have selected as the default player for
those sites. Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the link. However, I already looked into that
and found that the online help is for older OS's (Win95
and Win98) and older IE's (3.0 - 5.0) as stated at the
bottom of the article. When I tried the command prompt, it
errored indicating that deltree is not recognized. Also,
IE6 is a part of WinXP Pro and cannot be "deleted". You
must edit the registry so it does not see IE6 and then
reinstall, which I tried. I also edited the IE updates as
well and did not install them and still had the problem. I
tried reinstalling the updates and still have the problem.
I have emptied the temp and temp internet folders. I have
checked to ensure the wininet.dll is in the system32
folder and is cached. Still having problems.
