IE6 Crashes TOO often

T

TeresaB

This rarely happened with IE 5, and I can never get an
explanation as to why, all of the sudden, my Internet
Explorer is crashing every couple of hours or less! At
least 4 times in the past 2 hours my Internet Explorer
has crashed and says: Internet Explorer has encountered a
problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience. When I click to see what data the error
report contains, it says: Error signature -- ModName:
ntdll.dll -- further clicks show exception information.
I find this to be more than an inconvenience and can't
find a fix for it. I have been having this problem for
over a week now and have downloaded the service pack and
all hotfixes, and have even done the system restore. I
have never had this happen so many times before. I
really need help with this, so if anyone has suggestions
with this, I would be forever grateful! I have a Sony
Vaio desktop computer running Windows XP.

TeresaB,
The first thing to do is to scan your system for the possibility of
unknown\unwanted spyware or parasites that may be causing your problem(s).

I have continued to have this problem as well. "Sorry for the inconvenience. Internet Explorer has encountered and error and needs to close." I have done a system restore, and I completely reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled Win XP, a couple of times. After reinstalling, I downloaded all of the critical updates and patches, and service packs. This can't be spyware, viruses, or any settings, that so many people have suggested, if I am reformatting the hard drive, correct? Does anyone have any other suggestions? Any are greatly welcome.

I have tried all of these options as well.....to no avail. I even tried netscape, and I get the same error with netscape as well. Also, the modname for this error is unknown. File: 0.0.0.0. I'm baffled beyond words. Thanks for the help...anymore options.

Big E,
"Unknown" errors are usually 3rd party related .......
In most cases, something loading from Startup.

Identify StartUp Apps
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.htm
http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm
http://www.3feetunder.com/krick/startup/list.html

To produce a list of your Startup apps:
Start | Run (type) "msinfo32" (no quotes)
Click "+Software Environment"
Click "Startup Programs"
Click Edit (up top), select: Select All (highlights items in right pane)
Click Edit (again) select: Copy
Paste this info to Notepad and save as: Startup.txt
Use Startup.txt to compare to the above URL's to weed out the unnecessary
apps.
