IE seems not responding for the loading of very first page

Hi Folk

I have been using IE6.01 for ages now, on winxp sp1a installed. I
have my machine well managed with regular (weekly) checks against
viruses using NAV 2003, and have the virus list check daily. Also
check for adware/spyware using both lavasoft's adware and
bulletproofsoft spyware remover. I feel my machine is pretty clean.

Recently, and do not know for what reason, the IE 6 seems to respond
mysteriously. Upon call up IE with blank page, the very first URL I
input will always call for a long wait of about 2 - 3 minutes. The
status line does not change but with 'Done' at the lower left corner.
The mouse cursor is not responding to click, task manager reports that
Iexplore.exe take up all CPU resource. After possibly 2 - 3 minutes,
then the status line shows some responsive message with the green
progressive bar moving. Once this stage is passed, subsequent web
surf with the same instance of IE seems working normally. But if I
call up a new instance of IE with blank page, and input a new URL, the
same phenomenon appears again. I have been searching the web for
solutions, I saw solutions like style sheet setting, adware, spyware,
auto detection of network from IE's option settings, all cannot apply
in my situation. I have tried to re-install IE6 but again no help.

By the way, I use Opera, a thirdparty browser without any problem.

Is there any solution that you folk have experience that can share
with me?

Any help is much appreciated.

There are a lot of other things to do to eliminate spyware:
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.
