IE Stops Responding After Loading Web Page

Troubleshooting an issue on the CEOs desktop PC. Running Windows XP SP2 and
IE 6.0.2900.2180. 1G RAM, 800X600 resolution on a 128M Video card.

Upon launching IE, home page loads, (most times, completely). Following
completion of loading of homepage, selecting any other link, or manually
typing in another web page address causes IE to stop responding. The only
exit is to kill it from the task manager. I've performed thorough disk scan
(chkdsk /f /r /v), defrag, virus and spyware/adaware scans (none found) and
re-registering IE as well as the various DLLs listed in previous posts. None
solve the problem. The event log entries are for application hang. One
symbolic name is DW_BUCKET_LOG, the other ER_HANG_LOG. The fault bucket is
126637809. No user actions are required when following the links from the
Event Viewer and each say there are no Microsoft KB articles available .

No new software was installed. No software deleted. From reviewing the event
logs, the issue began 4 days ago, and has increasingly deteriorated to the
point mentioned above.

I can't do updates because I can't click a link after loading the initial
page. Nor can I reach a download link to freshly install IE.

ANY IDEAS???

Check to see what's running in the background.
Start > Run > msconfig > Startup tab

Try to disable uneeded programs loading at startup
from thier program options first. Sometimes too many programs or
Trojan programs prevent proper performance.

Use this list to verify programs:

That too was checked. There are no unnecessary programs loading. And again,
nothing new has been installed, thus, those that are loading were doing so
successfully, long before this situation arose.

Could be a malware infection, especially if your CEO surfs where he
shouldn't.

Okay, The issue began 4 days ago. Well......
Do you have a backup saved prior to that date?
If so I would restore to a previously known good system.

I would do a restore.

Good luck

Ahhh,

System Restore. Now there's one I hadn't considered. (I just hate that I can
"find and correct" the problem that way).

Thanks for the input. Thanks for the well wishes.

I'll update if/once I find something.

When I am fixing a typo in a message by hitting "delete", I am booted
completely out of Outlook Express as well as Explorer. I've had my computer
to a shop and it is not a virus. I had a new hard drive put in. I am on
cable and they said it isn't their equipment problem. What do I do? I'm
about to pull my hair out. I am 66, so don't bombard me with a lot of
computereze. Talk English. Thank you, whoever you are, for helping. My
email address is (e-mail address removed) .
