IE will not stop loading pages

Hi
We have XP home SP2 and have a problem with IE opening up to 80 windows.
It appears to be jammed loading pages and we cannot close it.
Ctrl/Alt/Delete will not stop it.CPU usage goes sky high. There appears no
reason for it. I have updated and scanned for spyware and viruses. The hjt
log looks clean.
Any suggestions. Thankyou.
Sue.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware but it's
best not to try to interpret the log yourself. **Post your log to

Hi. Thankyou for your suggestions.
I have been waiting on reveiw of the HJT log on Bleeping Computer.
They have helped clean up other problems before.
This time the log is clean.
For some time I have used adaware, spybot, ms antispyware, a squared,
spywareguard, spywareblaster, antivirus, firewall and firefox!
I think it does not seem like a spyware problem!!!
I have not had issues like that for a while.
IE has opened 80+ times again while firefox was in use.
This does not make much sense.
thankyou
sue

Post the URL for your thread at bleepingcomputer where your log was given a
clean bill of health, please.

This is the first you've mentioned Firefox. Did the problem being after you
started using Firefox? What version of Firefox are you running?

Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Set Program Access and Defaults: Is
Firefox chosen as your (default) browser here? Any difference if you choose
IE instead?
