IE not loading

I'm having a difficult time figuring this out. I am connected to the
internet, but when I open IE (I have 6.0) nothing loads up. I get 'Opening
page...' and the status bar goes about halfway, but nothing ever loads. This
has just come up in the last few days. I've downloaded various browsers,
rebooted the computer, run spyware & antivirus but I can't seem to get this
to work.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can try.

Try to run the ie6SP1 update by going to this
site.
wherein one can download
ie6sp1 as a stand alone part for their os.
say Win98, Win Me and Win2000.

I did WinMe part and solved a few problems by
following the instruction. One can have a good look
on the downloaded file before to run the ie6setup.exe file among downloaded
files. This file should run the
particular version for win os.
