IE disconnecting

Using Windows XP, the latest version of IE 6 and a cable
broadband connection, if I close the IE window and the
computer go to standby mode, when I return to the
computer, and open IE, there is no internet connection, I
must recycle the cable modem and re-boot the computer. If
I do not close the IE window, only minimize the window,
after the computer goes into standby and I return the
connection is fine. I am using Norton internet security.

Try this:
Open control panel/system/hardware/device manager
Find your network adapter and double click it.
Click on the "power management" tab
Unselect "allow the computer to turn this device off to
save power"
Select "Allow this device to bring the computer out of
standbye"
Hope it helps...

My IE is doing the same thing. I will try the fix you suggested. I'm also having trouble with IE giving me the error message that it is experiencing problems and must shut down. But when I click "ok" it doesn't close, but it does seem very sluggish. Any thoughts on this?
