Here's an alternative way to get to the power management
settings.
right lower corner of your screen....find the icon for
the LAN connection. double click it.
Hit "properties".
Now click on "configure" then select the TAB Power
management...
UNselect all boxes here and OK your way out of the
screens.
That should do it !

I am using Windows XP, the latest version of IE 6 and a
cable internet connection, networked to another computer
in my house. In the last 2 weeks, I have begun to
experience internet connection problems. If I close the
IE window and the computer goes to standby mode for
several hours, when I return to the computer, and open
IE, there is no internet connection, I have to re-boot
the computer in order to get the internet connection
back. The other computer in the network is not
experiencing this problem. I have tried to follow advice
I found on this newsgroup about changing the power
management settings for the network adapter. But I was
not able to find such a setting in the device manager (it
is not an option). I have also changed the setting on
the computer, keeping it from hibernating. This still
does not prevent the loss of the internet connection.
Any other suggestions?

I don't have a tab with power management as an option. Any other ideas?

Go to a command window and enter:

control powercfg.cpl

I'm suggesting you use a command window instead of the Run... dialog,
which would be more conventional, in case you get an error message
that way.

Good luck

Thanks, but that only brings up the power options window. I still do not have a tab for power management on the network adapter. I've looked at other computers running the same OS, and they have this tab. I do not have it! I don't know why.
