IE 6 SP1 and SP2 unable to view some gifs

Users are logging onto an NT Domain.
Some gifs are viewed as Red Xs in IE6 SP1 (Win2000) and IE6 SP2 (XP Prof).
I've cleared the cache and deleted all temp internet files.
Ran this on IE 6 SP1 (Win2000) "regsvr32 /i mshtml.dll"
After I ran it I was able to view the gifs I've been missing. But today,
it's back.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi bc :)

There are a few things that can cause this problem. Try the following and
see if it helps:

Zone Alarm Pro can prevent animation from working. If you have it installed
open the programme, go to the Privacy Tab and click on the custom button and
be sure that the option to block animation is turned to OFF.

Zone Alarm Pro can block Images in IE

1. Go into IE>Tools>Internet Options>Security>Custom level>reset custom
level to Medium or Low
2. Go into IE>Tools>Internet Options>Privacy>set the slider to Medium or Low
3. Go to this site and read on adjusting the Privacy settings in ZA. It will
explain how to customize on a per site basis.

also...

Turn off your ISP's Dialup accelerator. It works by reducing image size
(and therefor quality) for downloads.

Animated GIFs don't work:

Why don't my animated gifs animate?

Other programs such as @Guard can disable animated .gifs, therefore, be sure
no programs are set to disable gifs..

Make sure your .gifs are associated to Internet Explorer. Click on a .gif in
windows explorer, IE should open to display it. :

Try Doug Knox's script utility:
http://www.dougknox.com/utility/scripts_desc/fixpix.htm

IE>Internet Options>Advanced tab>Multimedia section>"Play animations in web
pages">Apply>OK out.

or....

Go to Start>Run and type in the window:
regsvr32.exe /i shdocvw.dll (all versions of IE) ... and then
regsvr32.exe /i shdoc401.dll (IE5 upwards)

If using WindowsME the command is:

regsvr32.exe /i thumbvw.dll

You should soon see a *succeeded* dialogue box after each command.
Click ok, and then reboot

and..

Pictures are not displayed in Internet Explorer

Hope this helps :)

Hi!
Thank you so very much with the info.
It looks like our proxy server is the culprit.
I've been going crazy trying to resolve this problem on the local machine.
Thanks again for the info. I will save it for my binder.
