IE 6 crashes unexpectedly while browsing

OS: Windows 2000 Pro
Browser: IE 6 SP1 (v.6.0.2800.1106)

IE 6 will crash suddenly while browsing. The error messages will prompt me
to send the error reports to Microsoft or not. The errors vary from time to
time but include mshtml.dll, flash.ocx, jscript.dll, kernel32.dll, and
unknown.

I've heeded the suggestions listed on this message board but to no
resolution. I've tried reg32 svr from the command line but without success
(IE will crash after some time). I've cleared out my temporary folders as
well. I've re-installed flash and still continue to have the same problems.

I try to install IE6 SP1 from the IE website, but receive an error message
saying that I need IE6 installed first (which I already have). Very odd....

If anyone can provide me with assistance, I would be greatful.

Hi,
Have you checked for malware? Errors in mshtml.dll, kernel32.dll and unknown
are often caused by malware.

Try CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot and the other at programs named and
explained at http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security
tips on that page.

Additional information at:
The Parasite Fight http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm
More security tips at http://www.aumha.org/a/parasite.htm
Bugs, Glitches & Stuffups: http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/Darnit.htm

Hope this helps,

Don,

Thanks for the suggestion.

Ran all Adaware, CWShredder and Spybot S&D and all came back clean. No
malware.

Any other suggestions?

Go to: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware]

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates: "hijackthis.log")

Next, go to the below location:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

Sign in, go to the "Spyware and Hijackware Removal" section.
Press "New Topic" and post a description of your symptoms. If they need to
see your log they will ask for it.

Hi,
Which version of Windows? Which version of IE?
Copy and paste the following line into the IE Addressbar, click on Go, then
copy and paste the results into your reply:

javascript:navigator.appMinorVersion
