Multiple Errors in IE 6 SP1. Help please!

Holly

I am running Windows ME with Internet Explorer 6 SP1 version
6.0.2800.1106. I have downloaded all of the critical updates from
Windows and I have run both anti-virus protection and AdAware with no
problems found, yet my IE frequently crashes while I am browsing the
internet. Also my newly installed version of Yahoo Messenger crashes
quite often. The most frequent errors are:

IEXPLORE caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 0187:bff6bb07.

IEXPLORE caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 0187:bff78807

IEXPLORE caused an invalid page fault in
module WININET.DLL at 0187:742150c0.

IEXPLORE caused an invalid page fault in
module SHLWAPI.DLL at 0187:6319a0c9

IEXPLORE caused an invalid page fault in
module MSJAVA.DLL at 0187:7c02ccb4

IEXPLORE caused an invalid page fault in
module MSHTML.DLL at 0187:7f3c5286

WORDPAD executed an invalid instruction in
module MFC42.DLL at 0187:5f4180c0

YPAGER caused an invalid page fault in
module WININET.DLL at 0187:742310c0

YPAGER caused an invalid page fault in
module RICHED32.DLL at 0187:7f8f68ab

YPAGER caused an invalid page fault in
module OLEAUT32.DLL at 0187:7fe990bf

YPAGER caused an invalid page fault in
module FLASH.OCX at 0187:039210c6

And so on and so forth. The MSHTML.DLL error is the most frequent. My
version of that file is: 6.0.2800.1106.

Also I recieve frequent OLEAUT32.DLL errors, I have checked my system
and I have two versions of that file.

All of my drivers are updated.

I have tried using an alternate browser, SlimBrowse, but I still get
the errors only it's "SBrowse caused" such and such error.

I have read Microsoft's info on the MSHTML.DLL errors and it hasn't
been useful at all. If anyone has any advice to offer I would be
greatly appreciative. Thanks!

They are not all related so will answer only one that has nothing to
do with IE6.

Many errors in Wordpad are fixed by removing this key in the Registry
with Regedit:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current
Version\Applets\Wordpad
A restart may be necessary.

See this article:

Start by uninstalling Yahoo Companion. Then:

A. See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

B. You may need new video drivers. Check the site for your video board
manufacturer. Meanwhile you can do the following:
1. Use the default mouse pointers.
2. Turn down your color depth. (Right click the desktop and choose
Properties | Appearance | Settings) Some people find that increasing color
depth helps.
3. Turn down your graphics hardware acceleration. (For Win 98, Start |
Settings | Control Panel | System | Performance | Graphics button) You will
see little, if any, performance degradation.
4. Turn off your desktop wallpaper.

If these make the problem go away you need new video drivers.

If you have an ATI video board, try adding these lines to System.ini

Okay, well I don't have Yahoo Companion installed and all of my
drivers are up to date as I previously stated. Thanks for the
suggestions though.

Any more advice? Anyone?
