IE 6 SP1 Closes Abruptly When Browsing Some Sites

Hi,

I use IE 6 SP1 on Win XP Home. Recently I've been having a problem in which
IE closes abruptly, with no warning message, etc, when browsing some sites:
http://www.citysearch.com for example, but also others such as
http://www.pocoso.de/pocoso052.html. I find that if I click "stop" before
the page loads completely IE doesn't close; however, this is not an issue
with the page per se because I've opened the same page using IE6 SP1 from a
Win2K Prof machine, and it's worked fine.

Even though I say this problem is "recent," I can't for the life of me think
what started the problem--I can't tie it to a specific upgrade, install,
etc.

Please advise. This is getting to be so bad I'll have to switch browsers
pretty soon.

Thanx.

IE closes abruptly, with no warning message, etc, when browsing some sites:

Both sites use Java. (I suspect you know that because the second
one is titled:

<title>Java Test - Does Java work with my Browser? - Porta Coeli Software GmbH</title>

)

So, have you tried to avoid the problem by disabling Java?
(Security tab, Custom Level..., Java permissions, Disable Java

You may get an erroneous prompt if you do that
(something about Active-X) but hopefully at least
that will be a less severe symptom and allow you
to see the rest of the page.

Others post frequently on how to install either variety of Java.
Search for their posts if you need a better fix.

Good luck
