Strange IE6 (SP1) behaviour for accessing some sites?

Hi,
I have a strange question here it is:
I run one of my PC under Windows 2000 SP4 with IE6 connected to my
ADSL router and i cannot open yahoo mail! (http://mail.yahoo.com or
through mainpage). I can browse yahoo.com or other yahoo pages or
other websites, but cannot access yahoo mail! returning with "this
page cannot be displayed".

The strangest thing is: I can connect yahoo mail! with no problem with
another PC running on WinXP SP2 connected to the SAME router at the
SAME time.

I tried these with no luck:
1-ipconfig /flushdns
2-Re-installing the latest Java enviroment
3-Trying verified DNS addresses
4-Re-installing IE6_SP1
5-Changing MTU to 1492 via DR.TCP
6-Repairing Winsocks.
with no help.

What is Yahoo Mail's problem with Windows 2000 or IE6_SP1?

That's also funny because i cannot blame ISP because the other XP-
based PC runs well(wireless) to connect Yahoo Mail so i'm keen on
calling this problem as "Yahoo" issue.

Finally, i searched the net and found some logical situations which
are the same that forced me to think this is a problem of old
IE6(SP1)'s which may not support high "encryption levels" of secure
sites. For example yahoo mail!.

I'm on Win2k(SP4) and as you know IE6(SP1) is the latest release, does
IE6 support 128-256 bit SSL encryption? Because i can browse well with
the latest Firefox.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello,

Check your hosts file located in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc for any
lines with yahoo in them and remove it.

Also try disabling your firewall (provided you are behind the ADSL router)
and see if it resolves the issue.

There is no line about yahoo mail! in host file. My problem is about
Yahoo Mail!'s and its similiar's encryption problem like Yahoo Mail!
has 256-bit which works fine in Firefox at the same machine.

Could you try with IE6 SP1 if you can generate the problem? (i'm on
Win2k+SP4)

Thanks.

Hi again,
I'm using old Yahoo! Mail and I'm on Win2k not XP, so SP2 is not
available for W2k.

But if it makes a sense as a clue, "Internet Explorer 6 SP1 on XP-
client, not on 2000" works OK with Yahoo! Mail(secure site) as i
tested.

Any ideas?
