history panel problems

Usually the first time I open IE after a reboot, the history panel is blank.
If I click on the upper part of the white portion of the panel, I can
sometimes get the current day heading ( Tuesday if it's Tuesday etc), but no
actual history for that day. If I close the browser, clear the temp internet
files through control panel, reopen the browser, the history usually
displays properly, including past history. This only works temporaraly, the
problem reoccurs.

So far, I've uninstalled ie 6, which reverted me back to 5.5 sp2, same
problem. Re-installing 6 sp1 did not resolve this. Uninstalled AV program,
no joy. Ran spybot, did online scan, defrag, scan disk. Problem started
about 5 days ago.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
If you're sure that your antivirus program was disabled/uninstalled [
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;819257 ] I would
next try deleting the History and Temporary Internet Files *folders* New
folders will be created on restart. See the instructions for Win98 at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm "Win98 users that need to delete
the Temporary Internet Files"

Hope this helps,

That seems to have sorted it out. However, I had to do the routine twice.

The first time, things nothing really changed. The last three day headings
(thursday, friday and today) where still diaplayed, but with no actual
history.

The second try had better results. Thursday to Saturday was displayed, again
empty, but "today" started showing history. After numerous reboots, it
appears to be still working.
Thanks for your help
