IE6 History not showing properly.

my IE6 browser did not show any history items at all. for every day it just
shows:
Day/My Computer and nothing else.
i think it may be because i hade McAfee security center when i got the pc
first. however, i have long since uninstalled this programme and now, after
looking at many of the solutions on this site, they seem to be geared at
those still using the programme. i did find some article on this site that
had a good link to tips on how to restore history but after following the 1st
step (see below) i had to close all browser windows and cant find the site
again! (ironically if history worked i wouldnt have this problem!!)

what i did get done was to make a regedit change. i went to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/INTERNET EXPLORER/MAIN

there, i was told to change the value of Save_Session_History from "no" to
"yes". this did happen to have an effect. now the history file ("Day"/My
Computer /...) does have url details but they are not useable (an error
appears if you clikc on them).

any help would be very much appreciated!

thanks in advance,

noccer

Hi noccer :)

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, but, try the
following and see if it helps:

McAfee gave this solution to the bug where VirusScan 6 stops your Internet
Explorer History file working: Turn off the ActiveX part of McAfee's
Internet Filter

If you have McAfee AV running:

Open VirusScan console
Select "Pick a task..."
Select "Change my VirusScan settings"
Select "Configure VShield background scanning"
Select "Customise your VShield settings"

Select the "Internet Filter" icon from the icons down the left hand side On
the "Detection" tab, in the 'Applet filters' section, remove the tick next
to "ActiveX Controls".

or..............

Run regedit and navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER|Software|Microsoft|Internet Explorer|Main

and insure that Save_Session_History_On_Exit is marked YES and not NO. (I
just checked mine, and it is set to NO by default).

Also try..:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER|Software|Microsoft|Internet Explorer|TypedURLs

or.............

It could be that the History folder has become damaged or corrupted, try
deleting the folder, then reboot and a new one will be created.

Hope this helps.

im running windows xp home edition sp 2. unfortunately, as mentioned, i dont
have mcaffee anymore so its impossible for me to do what you suggested.
(Open VirusScan console
Select "Pick a task..."
Select "Change my VirusScan settings"
Select "Configure VShield background scanning"
Select "Customise your VShield settings") etc etc

ive already tried the regedit solution and it had the results (as mentioned
in my original post).
i also started in safe mode, deleted all my history folders and temp
folders, so there shouldnt be an issue there. i reckon its some registry
tweak i need to doctor.

any further options?!
