IE6 doesn't show History

I have a question about IE history and am wondering if
anyone has ever run into this before. On a laptop and a
desktop that I recently put XP on, when I click the
History button in IE, it only shows the current day with
the By Date view and both the By Site and By Order
Visited Today views show nothing. The By Most Visited
view appears to show all the sites I've visited today. I
don't recall experiencing this until going to XP so I'm
not sure if it's related to XP or IE6 since I don't
remember if I ran into this or not with IE6 on W2K.

My history is set to be stored for 20 days so that's not
it. Any idea why this history isn't there? It's been
quite useful to me at times in the past so I'm sorry to
lose it.

Enough with this ActiveX mumbo-jumbo. Most of the ActiveX recommendations
point to McAfee while I am using NORTON. I have disabled ActiveX several
times and my HISTORY contents are still not viewable. Interestingly, when I
perform an IE HISTORY SEARCH, those previous website are found and they have
the correct dates associated with them.

This can be caused by the ActiveX Control filters in McAfee AntiVirus. If
you disable the "Active X Controls" filter under the Internet Filters in
VirusScan 6.0 the IE History should work properly.

McAfee AV has been the cause of this problem for MANY users.

In your particular case, did you look at:
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers4.htm#history
http://www.generation.net/~hleboeuf/iehistry.htm
You should consider a damaged History folder which should be deleted (and
automatically recreated.)

Or try
Free History Eraser from

If you are going to jump in with a Me too! and try to hijack a thread
it would help if you clarified if *ALL* the OP's details apply to your case.

For example, another well known cause of this symptom in Win 98
systems is having an incorrect directory for History. Deleting the
incorrect directory usually fixes the problem. Or you could try fixing
any discrepancy under Shell Folders or User Shell Folders
in the registry.
