IE 6 Slow

Lately IE6 is slow to load initially and web pages slow to load. I often get
error: "Page cannot be displayed" when I know the URL was typed correctly. I
am running OS W2k SP4 on a Gateway Solo 9200 Laptop. It is 5 years old. It
is frustrating. Would it help to uninstall and reinstall IE 6?
I appreciate any assistance you can provide.

First eliminate any scumware.
CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of these programs ,
download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

Frank, I have a similiar problem. If I type an URL in the address bar when I
first start IE, it takes up to 5 minutes to display the page. If I pull the
same URL from history, click on a link or use File Open, it comes up
immediately. Doesn't seem to matter which address I try... basically, when I
type in an address it is very slow. Every other method works fine. Any
ideas?
