IE6 is very slow to load.

IE6 is very slow to load. In particular when using the BBC.co.uk site or
any site with the ability to play "videos", IE takes a long time to load up.
When IE7 first was released I had it installed but found it had bugs so I
reverted to IE6. Now, IE6 is giving me issues. Should I upgrade to IE7?

Please can some advise me on this problem.

Thanks

Hello,

Try running IE with add-ons disabled

*** If you are running IE6: ***
Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Advanced (tab) > UNCHECK "Enable
third-party browser extensions" > OK

Run IE6 now.

If it works now, one of your add-ons is causing the problem. Start Internet
Explorer as normal, Tools, Manage Add-ons, Enable or Disable Add-ons.

Disable all the add-ons. Enable third-party browser extensions in Internet
Options.

Restart your browser and enable the add-ons one by one till the problem
appears and you get the culprit.

*** If you are running IE7 ***
Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools >
Internet Explorer 7 (No Add-ons) to start without any add-ons. Try using the
browser and see if the same problem arises.

If the problem does not occur again, start IE7 normally, go to Tools >
Manage Add-ons and disable all the add-ons. Enable each add-on one at each
time and see if the problem occurs again. Once it occurs again after
enabling an add-on, you have nailed the culprit.

(if the menu bar does not appear, hit the Alt key on the keyboard)

My comment was not directed at you, Phil.
Sorry, is the above reply not applicable? Should I try that? Thank you.

Hi Phil, sorry to hear about your situation, but I think I can help you. As
far as videos go they come in many forms and formats, as I am sure you know.
Windows Media Player streaming, Real player, FLV players, Quick Time and
many other types of online players. Video files are usually large so this
may cause a slowdown when viewing. You might want to try out different
players if you have an option to choose a player like choosing between
Quicktime, Real player, or Windows Media Player, and see what is fastest and
best for you.

Now about your browser issue, I dont think upgrading to IE 7 ( Although it
has a lot of cool new features and enhanced security) will not make your
browser faster although my browser knowledge is limited and They just
released IE 8 and so I think most of the bugs are worked out in IE 7. I'll
leave the choice up to you.

Three or four things I would advise you to do. There is a great free
utility that cleans out temporary internet files, history so on and so forth
from the browsers cache. This speeds the browser up a bit. It is called CC
Cleaner. Download it from http://www.cccleaner.com and run it often.

You can also delete the cache unnescary files manually by going to tools
,internet options and deleting stuff from that menu.

Next go to http://safety.live.com and run a full free scan, not so much to
check for viruses but this free scan cleans the regisrty and cleans out more
temporary internet files.

Next let us test the speed of your actual internet connection to see if that
is slow. Go to http://www.speakeasy.net At the bottom right corner select
speed test and go from there.

Please let me know if this was helpful so I can improve my services.
Best regards,
Kaja
