IE 6 so slow

J

Jimmy Hsu

My web surfing has slowed down quite a bit lately, although I subscribed to
1.5mb ADSL broadband.
To speed things up, I've deleted all Temporary Internet files (Tools/Tools
Options/Delete Cookies, Files), History Files, etc. I've scanned for viruses
using Trend Micro, AVG and removed the Spyware files that were detected.
But IE still loads web pages slowly.

Please help. I am using IE version 6.0.2990.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519
128 bit on Win XP on a DELL 2.2 Ghz with 256 RAM. Many thanks

First thing to do; reduce the size of your IE cache to roughly 50 meg.

IE used to set its cache size to a percentage of total disk size, but with
today's modern computers, that is *far* to large for IE to handle well.

Once you've reduced the size of your cache, empty all content (including
offline files).

Shut down IE. Run a scandisk and defrag.

Then test.
