IE 6 Service Pack 1

I downloaded a file called ie6setup.exe from the Windows update site. This
is supposed to update Internet Explorer. However when I run the program I
get a message telling me that "A previous installation has pending work
requiring a reboot" and setup stops. I reboot and try again, with same
result. Can anyone help please.

I have IE6 6.0.2600.0000IC with various updates all from the Windows Update
site. I also run Norton AV and Norton Personal Firewall but disable these
before trying to install the SP1 update.

Any help would be appreciated.

Your anti-virus application and all other Windows processes should be closed
prior to downloading/installing via Windows Update or any MS page.

Very many thanks, Robear. The second of these documents suggested renaming
wininit.ini and running IE setup. It worked! I am grateful to you for your
help.
