IE 6 Receiving Error Reports on Tripod

G

Gary

I am having a very annoying problem that only occurs on
Tripod websites. I have emailed Tripod about this, also,
but no response, yet.

This has been occurring for about a month now, and I
believe it must be due to something Tripod has recently
begun using on their server tha causes some sort of
conflict with IE 6.

The problem always occurs on any Tripod webpage, and it
usually occurs within a minute or two of downloading the
page. I get a message telling me: "Microsoft Internet
Explorer has enountered a problem and needs to close. We
are sorry for the inconvenience."

I've sent the error report to Microsoft and have received
an email telling me there is nothing they can do about the
problem, so I'm at a loss to know what I can do about
this. It is especially annoying when I am attempting to
update my own Tripod website, as I have to keep starting
my browser again every few minutes.

Hi...That's real interesting because I'm having a similar problem
with any site on geocities.com, another large, older web community.
Trying to load any geocities site and I get an IE error note saying
in effect;
IE cannot download index.html from www.geocities.com.
IE is unable to open this site. The requested site is
either unavailable or closed. Please try again later.
In back of the error note is the Windows "flying file pages" animation.
Since when is trying to open a web page a download request, well, yeh
I guess it is but usually if there's a site problem I just get a 404.
I'll be interested in any helpful advice you receive as it may well
apply to geocities.com as well. I can't remember the last time I visited
a geocities.com site but I know I've done so and wonder if perhaps some
"improvement" I made to IE6 may be a problem.

Regards, Nick
