Cannot view geocities or tripod sites

Hi ... I use IE6 with W2000 and cannot view sites on
tripod.com or geocities.com. I don't have occasion to
due so very often but have noticed it lately. Searching
past news groups posts indicate that this does happen and
it's somehow related to IE settings but nothing specific
other than "try varying your settings to track down the
culprit". The general drift of most answers is that both
of these services ask a lot more of your computer than the
everday site one visits like what you're downloading, etc
and this may be conflicting with settings on one's IE.
Again, interesting but not specific enough to help.
I have also tried disabling my Kerio personal
firewall, a cookie blocker, and my Naviscope ad blocker
with no effect. Ditto with lowering my IE security level
from medium to medium-low. With geocities I get an error
notice to the effect that the site cannot be downloaded
and is either not running or busy ... try again later.
With tripod it's an error that I cannot download from the
file requested and to see the Tripod remote loading policy
which seem to be mostly about uploading to one's own site.
I noticed this problem using links from other sites but I
can't even enter the home site's url and get anything ie
www.geocities.com etc. The closest I can get is the Yahoo
page about signing up for a geocities account.
Anyone ever experience this and have suggestions?

Thanks very much that worked perfectly. I did also find another file
named Imohosts but left that one alone.
