IE 6 Issues

I have a client with a Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop running Windows XP
Professional SP 1. After he attempted to install a Logitech MX 700 Cordless
mouse, IE 6 runs the CPU up to 99% and crawls (takes about 2.5 minutes just
to load MSN.com) and browsing out to other websites takes as long, if not
longer. All of the latest Hotfixes and updates for both the OS and IE have
been installed.

Here are the steps I have taken to resolve this.
Uninstalled all the Logitech software and drivers.
Followed Logitech's knowledgebase article 898 of how to uninstall the
software and drivers (including going through registry settings to ensure
nothing is installed).
Scanned for Spyware using SpySweeper 3.0 and AdAware, none are present.
Ran WinXP's System Restore from various restore points, none will restore.
Ran Norton SystemWorks WinDoctor to resolve any registry issues.
Followed MS KB Article 318378 to reinstall IE, using both methods.
Tried setting the regitry entry specified in KB Article 318378 and ran
ie6setup.exe to reinstall IE.
Tried right clicking on ie.inf and installing IE using this method.

I have found nothing in the event logs pertaining to IE to explain the
behavor or to even get another idea of how to resolve this issue. I am down
to formatting the hard drive and reinstalling IE (which I really do not want
to do).

Any more ideas?

Paul

Have a look at all the programs you have running at startup

eg via
start > run > msconfig > startup

Make sure you can identify each entry and remove unnecessary ones (via
options in the relevant program or by deleting the appropriate registry
key )

I too have this problem and nothing I have tried has
remedied it either. The best way round it I found was to
start using the Mozilla browser instead of IE. All webpages
now load quickly as they should. I do still have IE loaded
and it runs alongside mozilla OK, but it still won't load
all webpages without guzzling the CPU usage. Must be an XP
compatibility thing I think.

Hi Jon,

Thank you for the suggestion, but I did check msconfig (neglected to put
that in there, sorry) and there wasn't anything unusual listed.

Any other ideas?
