How do I turn off Internet Connection Sharing?

Internet Connection Sharing is only turned on if you explicitly told
Windows XP to share an Internet connection. In that case, follow
these steps to turn it off:

1. Open the Network Connections folder.
2. Right-click the shared Internet connection.
3. Click Properties.
4. Click Advanced.
5. Un-check the box under Internet Connection Sharing.

If that doesn't help, are you getting a message saying to turn off
Internet Connection Sharing when installing a Cisco VPN client? If
so, the message is wrong, and the solution is:

1. Disable the Firewall/ICS service before installing the VPN client.
2. Install the client.
3. Enable the Firewall/ICS service afterwards.

In the original and Service Pack 1 versions of XP, the Firewall/ICS
service is called "Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) / Internet
Connection Sharing (ICS)". In the Service Pack 2 version of XP, it's
called "Windows Firewall / Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)".

To disable the Firewall/ICS service:

1. Right click My Computer, and click Manage.
2. Double click Services and Applications.
3. Double click Services.
4. Double click the Firewall/ICS service.
5. If the Service status is Started, click Stop.

To enable it after the installation, repeat those steps, clicking
"Start" in step 5.

According to the Cisco web site, VPN Client versions 3.5(1)D and later
have a parameter to ignore the ICS check prior to installing.
