ICS with Win98?

?

_

Hi,

I'm trying to use Windows 98 as an ICS client for an XP host. I tried
configuring the Win98 machine with DHCP and static IP, but nothing works.
Finally I used WinGate instead, but is it possible to get it to work with
ICS?

Thanks

Yes any client including MAC and Linux will work with ICS
and requires no configuration as DHCP will do everything
for you. Before I can really answer this question I
would need to know the exact setup you are using, you
might give me a diagram such as the example I listed
below. Given that you are able to get ICS to work with a
third party program indicates that you have the hardware
setup correctly and the problem probably lies somewhere
in the settings. The site listed below will give you
info about ICS and how to configure. You should only
have to configure the XP machine.

Cable connection from wall goes to...

=> Cable modem which goes to...

=> XP Home computer which goes to...

=> Hub...

=> Win 98 computer is connected to the hub.

For ICS to work on 98 you need the ICS client which is only available on 98SE.

There is no specific software for ICS client and ICS
client is really just a term. Win98SE is needed to be an
ICS HOST but any OS can be a client including MAC and
Linux as long as they the ability to obtain an address
automatically using DHCP.

I have a PPPoE connection on the WinXP machine, and a crossover cable links
the win98 machine to the winxp one. I can actually share files between the
computers, but not the net. I chose the network card connecting the win98
machine as the local network in the ICS options.
