Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum.

I did a quick search for my problem but couldn't find anything in
previous threads.

Basically, the icons for "My Computer", "My Documents" and "My Network
Places" have been replaced by the generic Windows "Unknown File" icon,
and I don't know why. I've run a virus scanner (F-Secure) with the
lastest definitions installed and it came up blank. I've not noticed
any other problems.

If anyone knows how I can get my icons back, it'd be much appreciated.

See if repairing the icons using TweakUI helps.

TweakUI v2.00 for Windows XP/XP MCE [564 KB].

Nope, that didn't work. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

BTW, I've noticed something else. On the Desktop itself, only the "My
Computer" and "My Documents" icons have gone generic, but everywhere
else the "My Network Places" icon has aswell, whereas on the desktop it
has its original icon.

On the start menu all three items just come up as standard folders. In
file select/save dialogs they come up as "unknow file" icons.

Any more ideas anyone?

See if deleting the IconCache.db file helps. Click Start/Run and type:

%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\

Select the file named "IconCache.db" (hidden file) and delete it.

Restart Windows.

Aha! That worked! Thanks! Only problem is that there was no option to
fix "My Network Places". It was the Shelliconfix program that did the
trick, not deleting the IconCache.db.

Any idea how I can fix the "My Network Places" icon in the Start menu
and open/save dialogs? Thanks for your help so far!

Does repairing the "Network connections" icon help? If not, I'll certainly
look into this.
