icons are highlighted....SOMEONE HELP ME!!!

ok...i just recently got done fixing my desktop because it wouldn't show the
picture.
now all my icon titles and parts of my icon are highlighted. i tried
everything to fix it...but i cant. can someone out there tell me how to do
it? apparently the tricks im reading off this site aren't working.

Right click on your desktop where your icons are located. Do not click on
any icons, just click off the side. You will see arrange icons by -> go over
to another little window that opens, you shall see name, then size, then
type, and then modified. Continue to follow close to the bottom, you should
see it check marked and reading Show Desktop Items, also will be checked
marked as this is why your icons are highlighted lock web items on desktop.
Uncheck this and your icons will be no longer highlighted.

Try Opening System Properties in Control Panel, choose the Advanced tab, and
click Settings in the Performance section. Turn on the Use drop shadows for
icon labels on the desktop option, and click Ok.
