I need help with xp!

I have been having trouble with my pc for 2 weeks now,
after many efforts I took the advice of a tech at compaq
and deleted my xp, and tried to re-install it.
now I get an error message saying
the signiture for windows xp home edition is invalid
error code fffffdfo
cannot find text for message
syssetup dll
what does this mean!
help please!
