I am unable to get a default dialup established

I am unable to get a default dialup established. IE 6 used to dial my isp as soon as ie opened. After windows updating WIN2k Pro, IE no longer automatically tries to dial the modem. I can manually dial and get a connection but once ie is closed I have to manually close the connection. Outlook Express does dial automatically when I tell it to send and receive new mail

I have tried to set the default dialup in Tools, Internet Options, Connections and tell it to dial when there is no network connection but it does not work. I go back in to find the default dialup is reset to "none". I have tried both the apply and OK buttons, together and alone. I have tried rebooting after setting the default. It still won't dial and each time when I go back into the connections the default is set to none.

I tried reinstalling IE6 SP1 and that did not solve the problem. I also virus scanned the box with AVG's free virus program and the latest downloaded 2/17/04. Still no cigar

Can someone please help me? Email me directly if you know what the fix is.

The recent security update caused a conflict between Google and the
connection. If you have Google toolbar, uninstall and reinstall the toolbar.

First, go to Dial Up Connections and make sure you have only one connection.
If you have more than one, verify which one is the good one by connecting
with it. Delete any extra connections you have. If you continue to have
problems with your dial-up, you might consider deleting all of them and
going to the wizard to create a new connection. Might be that your user
profiles got changed when you updated. Main thing is that you have a good
dial up connection that you know works.

Go to Control Panel/Internet Options and click on the connection tab. Remove
any connections that appear in the dial-up settings box. Click on the Setup
button at the top of the window to create a new connection. You'll see your
current dial up connection as you go through the wizard. When finished, make
sure your connection in IE is the default connection. If not, click on it
and click the default button. Then, make sure the option to always dial the
default connection is selected.

If you want IE to automatically disconnect when you close it, with your
connection selected, click on Settings. I'm not real sure where the option
is, but, I think it's under the modem settings where you can check a box to
close your connection when there is not one detected.

Hope this helps
