See i had trouble with one of my computers, because it was
trying to run 2 operating systems. So in my genius i
formated the drive, but i used a diskette that was
supposed to copy the files to it. Well i start up my
computer and for a quick second i see the windows 98 start
up with that sky background, then it goes to a black
background, windows 98 1981-1998 something like that with
c:/ flashing. I want to install my windows xp upgrade on
it, but all i have is a c:/, what should, I do. I need
help asap.

First, make sure that your system can boot from the CD ROM drive (you
usually can set this in your BIOS settings).

Put the XP CD into the CR ROM drive and reboot the computer.

Follow the steps for a new XP installation. You will be prompted to insert
your 98 CD at some point just to verify that you qualify for the upgrade.

During the installation you will be given the choice of installing to an
existing partition or create a new one.

Delete the current partition and then create a new one in its place.

I just tried you suggestion and it still reverted back to
the black screen, after i had changed to the cd rom, and
saved the changes in the bios settings. I don't have a 98
cd rom, and I have windows xp upgrade home edition. Is
there anything else i can do???????????

If you don't have the 98 CD, you are out of luck since all you have is an
upgrade version of XP. You'll either need to get your hands on a 98 CD or
buy the full version of XP.

1) Adding lots of 'Os' makes you look like an idiot.

2) Let's see if I have this right - you want to upgrade to XP using a
Windows 98 boot disk as a qualifying product?! Er, no. Whatever gave you the
idea that a boot disk, which does nothing more than, er, boot your computer
would qualify you for an upgrade licence.

3) You certainly /are/ in need of help. Unfortunately, it isn't the sort
of help anyone here can provide...

No, your response tells us that you are. Multiple OS's are not uncommon at
all.

If everyone knew the right answer, these NG's wouldn't exists.

You obviously aren't here to help, so why not go back to abusing your
friends and family and leave us alone?
