Okay, here's the deal. My computer was a Compaq Windows 98 2nd edition. I
updated it to a Windows XP home edition which I have right now. Lately, My
computer has been slow. When I start it up it takes a few minutes and
sometimes my computer dosn't respond to what I click on for a few minutes,
also. My internet is SBC Yahoo DSL and it's fast. But my computer itself is
not. The only thing that is fast is my internet. Please help me ASAP.

Thanks.

The easiest answer is to throw money at your problem, and buy a computer
built in this century.

No. I mean, it's just that it takes a while to load things. It used to be faster. I want to know.. since I updated it, can I restore it with a windows XP restore disc? Will my computer still be XP after I restore it with an XP disc even though it orginally was a windows 98 2nd edition? If I restore it with an XP disc, and then it turns out NOT to be XP afterwards, could I use my XP update disc again and everything would be back to normal?

When was it faster? When you had 98SE on it, or after you upgraded to
XP?

Well, do you have one of those? Didn't your computer come with a 98SE
restore disk?

Restore disks typically wipe your harddrive clean, and copie an image of
the operating system and software you had when you bought the computer.
That means you will lose EVERY file, setting, and software you have
installed since you first brought it home.

That depends if you really have a XP restore disk.
If I restore it with an XP disc, and then it turns out
NOT to be XP afterwards, could I use my XP update disc again and
everything would be back to normal?

Do you have an XP Retail Upgrade Installation CD?

Again, I wouldn't bother wasting a lot of time and aggravation on
getting a minimalistic speed enhancement on a computer built in the last
century. I'd start saving and looking for deals on a cheapy computer.
Just stay away from eMachines. Buy a computer with real Installation
Media, not restore image CDs or disk partitions.
