hyper link problems

In past days whenever I double click a link from outlook mail or any html
format mail the default browser does not show. If for instance click on the
mail icon from yahoo messenger the default browser does not display.

In all instances the hand icon displays but nothing happens. To get to the
page I wish to see, requires that I open the browser and enter the url.

I have tried the Shift, link click to choose a browser with limited sucess
but still have problems.

I run both AVG and Live one care as well as Spybot daily. None of these
indicate that I have a virus or other malware.

Any advise is appreciated.

Open Control Panel > Folder Options - File Types tab
Select "URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol" and click Advanced button
Click Edit button
In "Application used to perform action" field, type the address of the exe file of
browser and then a space then "%1", e.g.:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" "%1"
Uncheck "Use DDE" and click OK twice then click Close

Good Luck, Ayush.

Thank you, most brilliant, that seems to have worked well. Pity this sort of
information is not included in the XP trouble shooter help.

Bye the bye for the other who might nedd this info. I listed the "action"
requirement as "browser" in that dialog box. The rest as your described.
Without the "action description" the changes would not be accepted.

Sorry to be a pain in the butt. Now we have the second part of the problem.

The first you will recall, was not finding the browser when clicking a mail
hyperlink.

The second part is the inability to find the browser when I click on a link
from any other software help. The example used in my first post was that of
the mail link found on Yahoo messenger. I have not had the opportunity to
test a link from within the message dialog box while chatting online so
cannot tell if that works.

regards Hugh

Try to repeat the steps but this time select "URL:Hyper Text Transfer Protocol with
privacy" in File Types dialog.
If that doesn't work then change your default browser then change it back to what you
want.

Good Luck, Ayush.

1= Click Start >> Control panel >> Add/Remove Programs >> Set Default &
Access Programs >> Custom make the browser you want as your Default Browser
there.

2= Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced.
Click on Programs Tab and make sure this check box is checked:
[ ] Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default
browser.

Click [OK] and out of the IE properties.

Open a run command and type in:
regsvr32 urlmon.dll click [OK]
Reboot your machine, test, is all okay?.
HTH.
