.htm Forms not Working

I have built several forms as .htm pages in my FP 2003 site. When any of the
forms are submitted, an error message page is received: "FrontPage Error.
User: please report details to the site's webmaster. Webmaster: please see
the server's application event log for more details." However, the data is
being written to the files on the website -- some are csv files and some are
htm files all in the _private folder. But, whenever the use submits the form
just the error message page is displayed and not the automatic confirmation
page. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The FrontPage
Server extensions have been reset several times and I have recalculated all
hyperlinks. The web site hosting company suggested changing all the pages to
..asp, but I feel the .htm pages should work just fine. Thanks. Jeff Yuhas

FP Forms require a host running the FP SE (and Email Transport enabled if the forms send to Email), plus publishing using FP http
mode
- all files should be written to a folder w/ write permissions (by default the _private folder)
Have your host provide you the Web logs w/ the specific errors

Thanks Stefan. The hosting site has Server Extensions version 5.0.2.5012 and
the Server version is Microsoft IIS 6.0. All of my form results files are
in my _private folder. Earlier the hoster said the problem was in the vti
files and that I should
reset the server extensions (which I have done) and if that doesn't work,
change the pages from .htm to .asp. Any other thoughts?

Jeff.

Make sure the _private folder and your forms results pages have "server write" permissions set.

Also make sure the path to the form results page is a relative path:
_private/filename.htm
and *not* an absolute path:
http://www.websitename.com/_private/filename.htm

Thanks Steve. My forms are all in the _private folder (relative path) and I
am not sure how to check for server write permissions but the hoster
indicated that I should be able to.

I created form pages as ......./formname.htm. and the results files are in
the _private folder. The hoster also provided an interesting response: "It
appears that your form is making a reference to a page that either does not
exist or contains an error. The specific page is should be located within the
_vit_bin. The exact link to this page is as follows.

http://website.com/_vti_bin/shtml.dll/formname.htm"

Any thoughts on this?
