How to inhibit My Documents from opening up in Explorer when I boot up?.

I would like My Documents to be completely closed unless I select the "+"
sign.

Where in RegEdit can I make the change? Or is there a better way to
accomplish my goal?

BTW, I did visit a "Kelly" WWW, followed all suggestions to no avail. Other
thoughts please!

TIA Dennis

Hi Dennis,

Please post these registry keys, as this problem is almost certainly related
to some spyware installed on the system:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg

To do so, click start/run, type regedit and click ok. Expand hte plus (+)
signs to reach each key in turn. Click on the key, then on file/export, give
it a name (doesn't matter what) and save to the desktop. Once exported,
right-click the saved key and choose edit. This will open it in notepad,
click edit/select all/edit/copy. Open a response to this post, click in the
message text area and hit ctrl+v to paste the contents. Repeat for all keys
listed, then send the reply. Please do NOT simply attach the exported keys
to the response.

Hi Dennis,

Nothing unusual there, though some that are listed do not need to be there
and, most importantly, no spyware. This can be caused by leftovers from
cleaning up spyware as well. Try this:

Control Panel/Folder Options/View tab, uncheck the line "restore previous
folder windows at logon". Click apply/ok, do not reboot yet.

Start/run msconfig, on the general tab select the diagnostic mode. Click
apply/ok and reboot at prompted.

The folder should not show up now. Rerun msconfig, put the system back in
normal mode. Click apply/ok and reboot once more. Does this help?

Rick,

It appears that a solution has been found. I did what you suggested but the
issue was still there. That said, your suggestions are excellent. In the
end, I opened Explorer and closed the My Documents to the "+" sign.

I then used Tools>Folder Options>View>"Apply to all Folders."

Also, I re-selected "restore previous folder windows at logon", then Apply>OK

Re-booted and all was well.

FYI. I was not having a problem of a folder opening at login which is
symptomatic of not having (" ") quotes around path strings with spaces in
the RUN folder(s).

My issue was My Documents opening up expanded when it did not previously.

Thanks for your time, knowledge and concern.

Dennis
