How to get slide maser formating reproduced in slides

I reformated the slide master - the title box and the text box, but the
slides continue to be in the old formating. It is laborious to reformat every
page, and I have experienced in Office 97 version that the changes to
formating in the Slide Master is faithfully replicated in the slides.
Now I am using Office 2000. Does this version need me to do it differently?
Am thankful for help.

It should work in the same way. Are you sure that the format you have now
follows the slide master or was it changed manually? If it was changed
manually to be different to the master it will not change when you change the
master

No but it sounds as though someone may have applied formatting directly to the
title/text boxes on the individual slides.

One thing you can try is to go to the slide and reapply the original layout (try
reapplying it several times if it doesn't work at first).
