How to get MU not to offer Defender updates

I don't want MU bugging me every week about Defender updates. I'd much
rather Defender update when I run Defender, which is not full-time but
occasionally on demand.

Yes, I don't set MU on "Automatic" but on "Notify" because, Defender updates
aside, I like to know what I'm installing first and/or defer installing
updates until the bugs in the bugfixes are shaken out.

Yes, you can exclude a given Defender update within MU, but unfortunately,
there's no way I see to exclude all future offerings of them.

Alternatively, MU could benefit from an option where certain categories of
updates (say, Defender's) *are* installed automatically, even though the
global setting may be on "Notify," but that feature isn't available either.

The feature you are look for will not be available until Vista, and I don't
think it will be backported to XP.

Vista? It seems to me that it would be an enhancement to MU, not the OS,
that would pertain here.

OK, but that leaves the problem in XP. MU could be enhanced to allow you to
disable all future Defender offerings; alternatively, MU could be enhanced
to make an exception for Defender updates and install those automatically
(when someone uses the global Notify setting).

I agree with your suggestion, ask in where you can submit suggestion for Microsoft update. Both teams will need
to be made aware of this.

Thanks
