Definitions WOULDN'T Update (but I Solved my Problem) FIXED!!!

I was having the same problem as a lot of people here.
The Defender definitions would not update. (They updated fine for a while,
then one set of definitions would not at all.)

*This is the second time I have had this issue (last was a few weeks ago).*

I tried the Win Support site referenced in these posts but uninstalling the
definitions didn't work.
I tried updating the definitions in Defender (Under "About Defender"...it
should be somewhere more obvious.), using the Auto-Update, and going to the
Windows Update website.

When I tryed to update in Defender, it came back saying there was nothing
new to be found???
The Windows auto update, and Windows Website update, repetitively say that
the Defender definitions need to be installed.
But when I install the definitioins, it wont change the definitions that
Defender is using.

Then the exclamation Task Tray icon comes back up, telling me that Defender
is still out of date. I can download and install it as many times as I want
but it never works. Even after XPsp2 does it's 'Shutdown Install' process.

Shouldn't the definition update work better on a product like this???

********************
Anyways, now the answer...

I've tried everything listed here but it still would not update.

They way I had to fix this (both times) was:

1) (As in the other posts:) Go to the "Start" menu and select "Run".

2) Paste in the box "Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}" and
click "OK".

3) When the Windows Installer pops up, click "Yes" and it will clean up the
definitions...

(Note: I then went into Defender to the "Help" menu and selected "Exit
Windows Defender" to shut it down completely, then clicked "Yes" to confirm
Defender shut down. This may not be necessary, but why not?)

4) Now go to the "Start" menu, then "Control Panel", and select "Add or
Remove Programs" from the list.

5) Find "Windows Defender" in the list of installed programs, and click it
once so that it changes colour and the buttons appear.

6) Click the "Change" button, then "Next" when the "Windows Defender
Maintenance Wizard" comes up.

7) Select the checkbox "Update Windows Defender" and click "Next".

8) The wizard will say "Ready to Repair the Program". Now click "Install".

9) When the repair is complete the window will have a checkbox that says
"Check for updated definitions and run a quick scan now" which will be
checked. Click "Finish".

The program will open and the definitions will have been reset, then it will
check for, and update to, the newest definition file then run a quick scan.

This is the only way I could get it to work.

Now Windows Update is not bugging me anymore and I have the newest
Definitions!!!
Time for quick scan.

To someone at microsoft:

Please fix this bug as so many people are having problems updating their
definitions. (Many more probably don't bother posting their problem, or even
realize for that matter). People with Auto-Update enabled are probably having
their computer downloading and installing the definitions over and over when
it doesn't work and starts over.
I never had a problem updating MS AntiSpyware, so why in Beta 2?

Please let us know,
Thanks,
Big V ;-)
