How to configure a network printer

Dear experts,

We have 2 HP laser printers (HPLJ 8100N & HPLJ 8150N) both with JetDirect
card installed when purchased. We are using both the printers in our domain
by connecting to a PC and sharing the printer for all clients.

Now I want to configure it on the Windows 2000 server and remove those PC's
connected to the printer.

Please give me steps how to configure the printer directly to the server
windows 2000 and steps at printer side and steps at the client sides.

Thanking you in advance.

Regards,
Athar

1. Use the HP installation CD on the server in order to install
the printer on the server. The process is interactive and largely
automatic.

2. Check the properties of this printer so that it is shared.

3. Go to each workstation and install a new printer. Say it's
a network printer, and click the server when the selection
list comes up.

It's as simple as this!

If I might ask, why tie up server resources for this? If they both have
JetDirect cards they're capable of operating on the network on their own,
and can be installed on the client PCs as TCP/IP network printers.

For the server side see
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/Printing to Print Server device.htm.

For the clients, it depends on the Windows version on the clients. For
Windows 2000 and XP clients, see
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/NetPrinterAllUsers.htm, or use the Add
Printer Wizard to add a Network Printer. If the clients don't have the same
OS as the server, you may have to install Additional Drivers for the other
Windows versions (e.g. Win9x, Windows NT 4).

If you have problems, I suggest posting in the
microsoft.public.win2000.printing newsgroup.
